Farther vs Further

Do you get confused on when to use ‘farther’ and ‘further’? Nope, they are not interchangeable, there is a small distinction between the two! Here are some tips to learn how to differentiate them.
Farther
A measure of physical distance, how “far” something is.
e.g. The coffee shop is farther than the mall.
John bought a rare invisibility cloak. He put it on and walked in his underpants farther down the road thinking he was invisible

Tip: If you can measure the physical distance, use farther. In the example, we can physically measure how far John has walked down the road.
Further
A measure of figurative distance. It also means something additional.
e.g. I am further away from my dreams.
I have no further questions.
However, that could not be any further from the truth. He had been scammed.
However, that could not be any farther from the truth. He had been scammed.
Tip: If you cannot measure the physical distance, use further. In the example, we cannot physically measure the truth.
